New Study Affirms Temporal Artery Thermometers for Real-Time Pandemic Detection

A new study recently showed that the Exergen Temporal Artery Thermometer could be used as a potential surveillance tool for febrile disease and could complement current disease surveillance systems.

The study, conducted at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical center in Boston, Massachusetts, used Exergen thermometers at initial triage vital signs and automatically logged temperature measurements over the course of two years including the autumn-winter wave of the 2009-2010 H1N1 (swine flu) pandemic and the 2010-2011 seasonal flu outbreak

The study also notes that the temporal artery thermometer could be useful for monitoring febrile diseases in schools, transportation hubs, and workplaces since the device can easily be used by non-medical experts.
