Rise in reported cases during the first weeks of January signals the need to prevent a new epidemic like last year’s
São Paulo, February 12, 2025 – According to data from Agência Brasil, 87,018 probable dengue cases were reported across Brazil during the first weeks of January, including 8 confirmed deaths and another 89 under investigation. São Paulo accounted for 29,447 cases, followed by Paraná, Rio de Janeiro, Espírito Santo, Tocantins, and Mato Grosso do Sul.
Last year was considered atypical due to a significant dengue outbreak. Official data already suggest caution, with a 16.72% increase in dengue cases at the start of this year compared to the same period in 2023. With more than 6.4 million dengue cases reported in 2024, Brazil reached a historical record, marking the highest number of infections in a single year.
In addition to preventive measures such as eliminating stagnant water, using repellents, and taking advantage of the vaccine distributed by the Brazilian government through the public health system, the population must recognize that monitoring symptoms is a crucial component in dengue treatment.
“Accurately monitoring body temperature important. We designed our Temporal Artery Thermometers for healthcare professionals to give them access to the most accurate, non-invasive temperature readings to improve health outcomes” explains Dr. Francesco Pompei, CEO and founder of Exergen Corporation, a leading manufacturer of infrared thermometers and manufacturer of a highly accurate and easy to use thermometer.
Alongside constant and precise temperature monitoring, it is vital for patients to stay well-hydrated, as high fever can be accompanied by diarrhea, increasing the risk of dehydration, particularly during the hot summer months. Adequate rest and a light diet, including soups, broths, and fruits, are also important allies during the recovery phase of the disease.
